Moto Guzzi Stelvio

The Adventurous Spirit

In a bold stride into the future, yet deeply rooted in a storied past, Moto Guzzi proudly unveils the Stelvio. This name resonates with adventure and exploration in the motorcycling world. Celebrating over a century of unparalleled craftsmanship, Moto Guzzi’s journey continues with the Stelvio, a motorcycle that encapsulates the essence of a neverending journey. From the momentous celebration of its 100th anniversary to the groundbreaking launch of the V100 Mandello, Moto Guzzi has consistently pushed the boundaries of what’s possible. Now, with the Stelvio, it writes a new chapter that honors its legendary past while forging a path laden with advanced technical prowess and an exhilarating riding experience.

This latest incarnation, the Stelvio, symbolizes a perfect convergence of Moto Guzzi’s rich heritage and forward-thinking innovation. It stands as a beacon of modern motorcycling, offering riders a unique blend of technology, performance, and style. The Stelvio is designed for those who seek not only to explore new landscapes but also to experience the thrill of the ride in its purest form. It’s a motorcycle that inspires riders to chase the horizon, pushing the limits of adventure and discovery on the open road. With the Stelvio, Moto Guzzi invites riders to embark on a journey that’s about more than just the destination – it’s about writing your own story on the canvas of the world.

Design Philosophy and Aesthetics

The Moto Guzzi Stelvio’s allure lies in its distinct design philosophy, a harmonious blend of form and function that sets it apart in the world of adventure touring motorcycles. Embodying sophistication and originality, the Stelvio is a unique masterpiece in its class, particularly with its innovative Cardan shaft drive and the distinction of being the only bike in its displacement class with an electrically height-adjustable windshield.

The design begins with the engine’s sculptural prominence, where the cylinders seem to emerge dynamically from the tank, continuing in a contemporary vein. This geometric dissection between the tank and seat accentuates the elegance of its lines while maintaining a focus on intricate details. The choice of materials, colors, and finishes is future-oriented yet retains the unmistakable Italian essence of Moto Guzzi, evident in every curve and angle.

Aerodynamics have been meticulously refined by a dedicated team of engineers utilizing Moto Guzzi’s pioneering wind tunnel. Over 1,500 hours of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and numerous wind tunnel sessions were invested to optimize air protection and comfort, aligning with Moto Guzzi’s legacy of innovation. The windshield, subjected to special study, is designed to deflect airflows efficiently while avoiding rear vortices. To accommodate different statures, it is electrically adjustable in height up to 80 mi/h (150 km/h), with a range of as much as 70 mm.

The Stelvio also pays homage to iconic models from Moto Guzzi’s rich heritage, drawing inspiration from elements like the louvers in the under-seat sides, now reimagined to reflect modernity and innovation. The design ethos is apparent in every aspect, from the radiator’s discreet placement to the concealed rubber connection hoses, enhancing the mechanical purity of the motorcycle.

Technical Innovations and Engine Performance

The Moto Guzzi Stelvio is a testament to engineering innovations, particularly the engine. This power unit is a source of exceptional performance and also a beacon of Moto Guzzi’s technical prowess.

Engine Specifications

The engine of the Moto Guzzi Stelvio is its distinguished 90° transverse V-twin, liquid-cooled engine. With a substantial 1042 cc displacement, it delivers a powerful 115 hp at 8,700 rpm and a robust torque of 105 Nm at 6,750 rpm. Despite this impressive performance, the engine maintains efficiency with a low fuel consumption rate of just 5.1 l/100 km, balancing power and economy in Moto Guzzi’s signature style.

Innovative Design Features

Reed Valve Pack: Separates the crankcase from the oil sump, allowing for a more compact engine with essential ground clearance

Reduced Inertia: Up to 50% less than the previous 1200 8V engine, enhancing responsiveness

Counter-Rotating Shaft: Decreases reverse torque for enhanced riding experience.

Engine as Structural Component: Integrates into the frame with eight attachment points, showcasing a blend of balance and engineering precision

Performance Enhancements

Torque Distribution: 82% of torque available from as low as 3,500 rpm

Emission Standards: Complies with Euro 5+ emissions, featuring three lambda probes

Fuel Efficiency: Despite its power, the engine maintains low fuel consumption and favorable running costs

Drive System

Final Drive: Aluminium single-sided arm, optimized for off-road use

Smooth Riding Experience: Eliminates initial upward effect upon throttle opening, akin to a chain drive but with the benefits of a cardan drive

Through these technical innovations, the Moto Guzzi Stelvio not only delivers exhilarating performance but also underscores the brand’s commitment to efficient, environmentally conscious engineering.
