KTM Introduces Next-Level TFT Touchscreen Displays for Improved Connectivity

Oct 17, 2024 | News

KTM has unveiled its latest breakthrough in motorcycle technology with the introduction of new TFT displays and an updated electronic architecture designed to redefine the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for riders. With cutting-edge vertical 8-inch (V80) and horizontal 8.8-inch (H88) touchscreen dashboards, KTM is bringing an entirely new level of usability, connectivity, and interaction to its upcoming premium models.

The new TFT dashboards, featuring a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, are equipped with inductive touchscreen technology, making it easy for riders to interact with their bike’s systems regardless of weather conditions or riding gear. These displays come with anti-reflective, anti-fingerprint, and anti-glare coatings, ensuring clarity and visibility from all angles, while an impressive 256,000 colors deliver sharp detail even in varying light conditions.

One of the standout features of these displays is their ability to respond to inputs even while wearing gloves. Riders can access key functions, like heated grips, rider seat heating, and fog lights, directly from the screen without needing additional buttons. KTM has also introduced customizable split-screen options, allowing users to tailor the display with up to five layout configurations, choosing from adaptive cruise control, map navigation, telemetry, and more.

In addition to the advanced displays, KTM has redesigned the handlebar switchgear to improve functionality and ease of use. Riders now have a dedicated Ride Mode button, a new five-way joystick, cruise control controls, and a customizable paddle button system. The backlit buttons are strategically placed for easy access in all riding conditions, making the entire system intuitive to use.

KTM’s new connectivity unit, the CCU3.0, integrates offline map navigation, which means riders can plan routes and access real-time navigation without needing to sync with a smartphone. The unit also provides seamless integration with smartphones, allowing riders to continue listening to music, access contacts, and more, all through the dashboard’s split-screen display. With 32 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM, the system runs on Android Automotive, ensuring smooth operation of all its connectivity features.

Future-proofing is another key element of KTM’s new approach. The CCU3.0 supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring that new functions and features can be added to the bike’s system throughout its lifecycle. Initially, updates will be handled through KTM dealers, but over time, riders will be able to receive OTA updates directly to their bikes, much like modern smartphones and electronic devices.

Key Features:

  • Inductive touchscreen TFT displays in 8-inch (vertical) and 8.8-inch (horizontal) options
  • Anti-reflective, anti-fingerprint, and anti-glare screen coatings
  • Glove-compatible touchscreen input with virtual buttons
  • Customizable split-screen display with multiple layout options
  • Redesigned handlebar switchgear with dedicated Ride Mode and cruise control buttons
  • CCU3.0 connectivity unit with offline map navigation, IoT capabilities, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS
  • Over-the-air (OTA) updates for future functionality

With these advanced features, KTM’s new TFT displays set a new standard for motorcycle electronics, offering a smarter, more connected interaction. Available initially on KTM’s upcoming premium models, this new HMI system represents a bold step forward in motorcycle technology, blending KTM’s performance DNA with a future-focused approach to connectivity and usability.
