First Impressions and Material Quality

Cardo has spared no expense on quality, as is usual with their products. The robustness of the materials is immediately noticeable, and the promised durability is reassuring. The integrated JBL speakers offer incredibly clear and powerful sound, and the unit is completely waterproof and ready for any adventure.

Installation

A User-Focused Process

The installation is intuitive and accessible, thanks to the materials included in the box, such as an alcohol wipe to prepare the helmet surface and self-adhesive velcro patches to secure the speakers and microphone. The instruction manual is an excellent step-by-step guide that makes the process easier. Cardo offers two types of microphones (hybrid/boom and wired) to suit different helmet styles, which is a highly appreciated detail.

Mounting Innovations

The base mount offers two options: a clip that attaches from underneath or an adhesive to fix the base on the left-hand side of the helmet. The highlight here is the magnetic system that allows easy attachment and removal of the Cardo unit to its base, which is ideal for recharging the device.

Technical Specifications and Advanced Features

The Packtalk Edge is engineered with cutting-edge technology to ensure seamless communication and a superior audio experience. Here are some of the key technical specifications and features that set this device apart:

  • Bluetooth 5.2 Connectivity: This technology ensures robust and stable connections with various devices, including GPS systems, smartphones, and other Cardo units.
  • Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC): Provides flawless, real-time communication for groups of up to 15 riders, with a network range of up to 5 miles (8 km) in open terrain.
  • JBL Speakers: These 40mm high-definition speakers, co-developed with JBL, deliver crisp, clear sound and powerful bass, elevating the audio quality of your rides to premium levels.
  • Voice Command Integration: This feature supports voice commands for hands-free operation and is compatible with Siri and Google Assistant. It allows riders to focus on the road while managing settings and communication.
  • Waterproof Design: It is certified with IP67 water and dust resistance, making it suitable for all weather conditions and ensuring durability and reliability no matter the environment.
  • Battery Life: Offers up to 13 hours of talk time on a single charge and features fast charging capability that provides 2 hours of use with just a 20-minute charge.
  • Universal Intercom Compatibility: Allows communication with other Cardo devices and non-Cardo intercoms of any brand, boosting its versatility.

This combination of advanced technologies and user-focused features ensures that the Packtalk Edge is an indispensable tool, significantly elevating safety and enjoyment on group rides and long tours.

Usage Experience and Features

Once installed, you just need to connect two cables, and everything is set to go. Cardo’s mobile app is a perfect complement that facilitates pairing with other devices and software updates. During our road tests, using the intercom was incredibly simple. The ability to use voice commands to control the device, music, and radio and even interact with Siri or Google is a huge plus, especially useful when wearing gloves.

Sound Quality and Experience in Different Helmets

The 40 mm JBL speakers ensure exceptional sound quality. We tested the Packtalk Edge in various helmet types and achieved outstanding results in all of them. Although in MX helmets at high speeds, you might need to slow down a bit for clear communication, with closed or flip-on helmets, the sound is crystal clear, even at cruising speeds.

Intercom Functionality and Connectivity

In intercom mode, it’s possible to communicate individually within a group or directly with a passenger without sharing the conversation with everyone. Additionally, the music-sharing feature adds a social and fun touch to group rides. With a range of up to 1 mile (1.6 km) and the ability to connect up to 15 devices, the Packtalk Edge ensures communication in large groups over distances up to 5 miles (8 km).

With a battery life of up to 13 hours and compatibility with other brands, the Cardo Packtalk Edge is a highly recommended investment for any motorcycle enthusiast who values clear and efficient communication. Its intuitive design, superior audio quality, and robustness make it an indispensable companion on the road.

And remember:

Don’t just collect miles, collect memories.
