Detailed Technical Overview

Engine and Performance

The BMW F 900 GS, F 900 GS Adventure, and F 800 GS are powered by a new 895 cc inline twin motor, an evolution from the previous 853 cc engine, providing a significant boost in performance. The F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure churn out 105 hp at 8,500 rpm and 68.6 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm, while the F 800 GS delivers 87 hp at 6,750 rpm and 67 lb-ft of torque, showcasing a remarkable improvement in power and torque across the board.

Key enhancements include:

  • It increased engine capacity for higher peak output and torque.
  • Improved acceleration and pulling power.
  • Advanced cylinder design and forged pistons enhance engine efficiency and sound.
  • Active Knock Control for using a broader range of fuels without performance degradation.

Design and Construction:

Weight reduction is a central theme in these new models. The F 900 GS, for example, is over 30 lbs lighter than its predecessor, the F 850 GS. This is achieved through design optimizations such as a new plastic fuel tank, which is lighter and ergonomically designed, and a streamlined rear section.

Structural details include:

  • A bridge-type frame is made of deep-drawn sheet steel, integrating the engine as a supporting element.
  • A new, lighter rear section and fuel tank are contributing to the overall weight reduction.
  • Full LED lighting and a redesigned LED headlight for better illumination.

Advanced Features and Innovations

Riding Modes and Safety Features

Standard on the new GS models are two riding modes, “Rain” and “Road,” enhancing safety and adaptability to various conditions. Including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and cornering-optimized ABS Pro ensures a high level of riding safety. For those seeking an even more tailored riding experience, the optional “Riding Modes Pro” provides additional modes and features like Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and engine drag torque control, further enhancing the dynamic capabilities of these motorcycles.

Suspension and Handling

The F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure are equipped with new, fully adjustable upside-down telescopic forks by Showa, providing precise handling and superior off-road performance. The F 800 GS continues with its proven 41 mm front forks, offering a balanced ride for entry-level adventurers. All models feature a central rear shock, along with the double-sided swing arm, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride across various terrains.

Connectivity and Additional Features

A standout feature across the new F series is the 6.5-inch TFT display, offering connectivity and a wealth of information at the rider’s fingertips. This feature, now standard even on the F 800 GS, represents a significant upgrade from the analog displays of the past. Riders can enjoy integrated navigation, communication, and entertainment systems, enhancing the riding experience. Optional features like the Intelligent Emergency Call system and Keyless Ride further exemplify BMW’s commitment to convenience, safety, and technological innovation in its motorcycle designs.
